Kenya is the sixth-largest coffee producing country in Africa and the 18th largest in the world. However, few people know that coffee plants only appeared in Kenya about 120 years ago. Although at that time, trade between Kenya and other African and Central Asian countries was already taking place regularly. It wasn't until the mid-19th century that coffee seeds first appeared in Kibwezi. After that, the cultivated area expanded rapidly and increased quickly.
Kenya primarily produces Arabica coffee, but there is also a very small amount of Robusta coffee grown in the lower-altitude regions. For Arabica coffee, particularly the Bourbon and SL28 varieties, these are the main types grown in Kenya, accounting for around 70% of the country's coffee production.
