The Pulcina coffee maker, designed by Michele de Lucchi, is a revolutionary moka pot that combines technology developed by illycaffè with the design expertise of Alessi. It was unveiled at the London Design Festival in 2015. The name "Pulcina" is Italian for "chick."
Key Features
- Material: Made from die-cast aluminum, Pulcina boasts a compact yet significant design that ensures a perfect cup of coffee.
- Unique Design: The shape is formed from two connected spheres surrounded by horizontal metal rings, creating a stepped appearance.
- Extraction Technology: The internal design of Pulcina automatically stops the coffee filtration process just before any bitter or burnt aftertaste develops, enhancing the rich aroma of the beverage.
- Spout Design: The V-shaped spout, reminiscent of a chick's beak, allows for a perfect stop to prevent drips when pouring.
- Handle: The heat-resistant black plastic handle and knob make it easy to lift off the heat when still hot.
- Compatibility: The aluminum design is suitable for use on gas, electric, or induction stoves.

Instructions for Use
- Fill with Water: Pour filtered water (preferably warm) into the lower chamber, ensuring it does not exceed the safety valve.
- Add Coffee: Place medium-fine ground espresso coffee into the filter basket without pressing it down. Clean any coffee grounds off the edge of the filter.
- Assemble: Place the filter basket on top of the lower chamber and twist the two parts together (do not grip the handle).
- Choose Heat Source: Use a heat source that fits the base of the moka pot. If using a gas stove, adjust the flame so it does not extend beyond the base, avoiding contact with the sides of the pot.
- Heat: Heat until the water boils and the coffee rises into the upper chamber. You will hear bubbling sounds during this process.
- Remove from Heat: Once the coffee has filled the upper chamber, immediately remove the pot from the heat. The crema, a brown froth, will only appear for a few seconds before the coffee is ready.
- Stir Before Pouring: Before pouring the coffee, stir it with a spoon to blend the different layers for optimal flavor.
Maintenance
- Cleaning: Hand wash the moka pot with warm water; avoid abrasive pads or detergents to prevent scratching.
- Drying: Wipe dry immediately with a clean cloth to prevent discoloration.
- Complete Drying: Do not reassemble the parts until completely dry to avoid oxidation of the aluminum.
- No Dishwasher Use: Do not use a dishwasher to clean the pot.
