Guatemala is a country in Central America, bordering Mexico to the north and west, Honduras to the east, and the Pacific Ocean to the south.
The Huehuetenango Highlands is one of the three non-volcanic regions of Guatemala, as well as the highest coffee-growing area.
Hot air currents sweeping up from the Tehuantepec Plain in Oaxaca, Mexico, mix with cool air from the Cuchumatanes Mountains, creating a protected microclimate that allows coffee to be grown at elevations up to 2000 meters. This makes Huehuetenango one of the best regions for coffee production.
Huehuetenango has abundant rivers and streams, which makes it relatively easy for processors to wet-mill the coffee.
Coban is a coffee cultivar grown in the north-central region of Guatemala. It is cultivated in areas with high rainfall and humidity. This variety exhibits the typical Guatemalan coffee profile, including a wonderful mouthfeel, complex flavors, spicy notes, and fruity undertones.
The geographic conditions of Coban help create unique coffees with distinct acidity and fruit-forward flavors.
