Introduction to Vietnamese Bourbon Coffee Beans

Bourbon is a variety of Arabica coffee. It was bred to create new varieties, making it significant in terms of inherited traits.
Bourbon coffee originated from Yemen and was later introduced to the island of Bourbon, now known as Réunion, in the Indian Ocean by the French in 1708. The name "Bourbon" was given after the island.
The cultivation of Arabica coffee beans in Vietnam was introduced by the French around the 1930s.
Locations in Vietnam with suitable climate and soil conditions for Arabica coffee cultivation include Di Linh, Bao Loc, and Da Lat. Particularly, the Cau Dat region is considered the paradise of Arabica coffee in Vietnam. This area meets all the requirements for altitude, soil fertility, and climate.
With an altitude of about 1,500 meters, the Cau Dat region enjoys a cool climate throughout the year, providing excellent conditions for the coffee plants to achieve optimal yield and quality.

Characteristics of Vietnamese Bourbon Coffee Beans

Bourbon coffee shares the characteristics of Arabica coffee plants. Mature Bourbon coffee trees typically reach a height of 4 to 6 meters. The branches of the trees are relatively long. The leaves are symmetrical, oval-shaped, pointed at the tips, and curled. They usually measure 7 to 20 cm in length and 4 to 6 cm in width. The bark of the tree is relatively thin, light gray, and has many cracks, with large roots. The fruits are relatively small but heavy, and they have a round shape.
Vietnamese Bourbon coffee trees are suitable for cultivation at altitudes ranging from 1,450 to 1,650 meters above sea level, in areas with high rainfall and high humidity throughout the year. The Cau Dat Arabica coffee beans are larger, smoother, flatter, and have a much darker green color compared to other coffee varieties.
